It is very interesting to use phrase "eary bird" and "sleep like a log" and so on. Because, To express man's feature, we use other animals or items like "bird" or "log". I suppose that "log" can become symbol of immobile and silent and suitable for expression people sleeping deeply.

In Japan, we called such phrases as "比喩".
